Delta Discovery Picnic Days

1Delta Discovery Picnics allow the community to visit the Nueces Delta Preserve and former school field trip participants to come explore a little more. During this once-per-month open to the public event, come enjoy the sights and sounds of these protected estuary habitats. 
The dates & times are as follows:

Fall 2023
September 9: “Animal Tracks” 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
October 14: “Solar Lunar” 
11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
November 11: “Estuaries Alive”
 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
December 9: “Nature Photography”
 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Special Evening Program
January 13, 2024: “Star Party!” 5:00pm – 8:00 p.m.

Spring 2024

February 10: “Sheltering in Winter” 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
March 9: “Pollinator Invitation”
 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
April 13: “Spring Migration”
 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Summer 2024
May 11, 2024: “Wildflowers & Thorns” 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.
June 11, 2024: “Crepuscular Creepers” 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.
July 8, 2024: “Summer Survival” 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. 

Please bring a picnic lunch, picnic blanket, sunscreen/bug repellent, and plenty of water for everyone. Staff will be scattered around the area to answer questions and give background information on plants, animals, and the stories of these spaces.

Homeschool Days

Bring your home school students to the Nueces Delta Preserve!

The Education Staff is hosting a Fall and a Spring semester home school experience for your 1st-3rd and 4th-6th graders. We host a separate opportunity for 7-12th graders. These home school Days will allow families an opportunity to connect science curriculum to the Coastal Bend using guided discovery. 

These programs will be adapted to meet the developmental needs of children at their specific 1st-12th grade learning levels. 

1st through 6th grade programs will run from 9:30am – 12:00pm.
7th through 12th grade programs will run from 9:30am – 1:30pm.

Come explore what estuaries are, how they are important to life in the oceans, and how they support life in other ecosystems too, at the Nueces Delta Preserve.

March 13, 2024: Wildflowers & Thorns , 1st-3rd & 4th-6th grades

**Space is limited to 15 students per group and is available on a first come first serve basis.

Nature Story Time

Our FREE Nature Story Time for families (geared for ages 2-5) at the Delta introduces children to nature & the joys of reading through stories, crafts, and outdoor play.
Come have some fun with us from 9 – 10:30 a.m. at the Nueces Delta Preserve.
